Food for the Hungry is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to ending poverty – one community at a time. With partners like you, FH walks alongside the most vulnerable communities throughout the developing world as they strive toward sustainability.
Recognizing that each community faces unique challenges as well as advantages, FH is committed to an integrated, holistic approach to development including priorities such as agriculture, education, health, and gender equality.
Bordering India and Myanmar, Bangladesh is a lush delta region where the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers run into the sea. Although Food for the Hungry has been working alongside Bangladeshi communities for decades, in recent years refugees from Myanmar have settled in the southern region of Bangladesh and are a focus of Food for the Hungry’s relief efforts.
Burundi lies on a rolling plateau in East Africa, bordering Rwanda, Tanzania, and the DRC. For decades, ethnic violence and civil unrest have stunted the country’s development and today Burundi is considered one of the world’s poorest countries. Food for the Hungry is walking alongside families and leaders to help communities go from stuck to thriving.
Food for the Hungry (FH) started working in Cambodia in 1990, providing relief to people living in refugee camps during the civil war. Today, FH Canada walks with 8,614 households in 35 Cambodian communities in the regions of Boeng Mealea, Tropeang Prasat, Ta Siem, and Kantuot. Well on their journey from stuck to thriving, communities in Boeng Mealea look forward to celebrating graduation in 2024, Ta Siem in 2025, and communities in Kantuot and Tropeang Prasat will celebrate graduation in 2026.
Landlocked in the eastern region of Africa, Ethiopia is a predominantly agricultural country, with over 80% of its population living in rural areas. Harsh climate and droughts are major obstacles farmers in Ethiopia, and Food for the Hungry is committed to walking alongside these farming families and their communities.
Nestled against several other Central American countries, Guatemala touches both the Pacific Ocean and the Carribean. It is a predominantly poor country, struggling in areas including infant and child mortality, malnutrition, and employment. For this reason, Food for the Hungry seeks to walk alongside communities and leaders in order to bring health and development.
Located just below the equator, Rwanda is an elevated region dominated by mountains and lakes. Food for the Hungry initially began working in Rwanda in 1994 in response to the Rwandan genocide. Today, communities no longer fight one another, but fight poverty together; they are reunited and eager for a future free of poverty.
Uganda’s borders bring together a wide array of ethnicities, cultures, and political systems. Once deemed “The Pearl of Africa,” Uganda’s progress was disrupted by political oppression. However, communities stuck in subsistence living are filled with hope as they work with Food for the Hungry for a brighter future.
